Peperga
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as pepergae in 1399. Borrowed from West Frisian Pepergea, a compound of an unclear first element and Old Frisian gâ (“village, village area”). The first element may be a reference to the cultivation of Armoracia rusticana and Lepidium latifolium, both known as peperkruid (pepper herb).
