Etymology
From Middle English pencioun, pensioun, from Anglo-Norman pencione, Old French pencion, and their source, Latin pēnsiō, pēnsiōnem (“payment, weight, rent, compensation”), from the participle stem of pendere (“to weigh”). Doublet of pensione.
