Etymology
From Proto-Albanian *pa ̊, from Proto-Indo-European *peh₂(y)- (“to herd, watch over”). Cognate to Sanskrit पति (pā́ti-, “to herd, watch (over)”). A suppletive verb, which occurs in the participle and the aorist and as in the tempora and modi derived from these stems.[1]
