- Occurring in a sequential fashion, such that occurrences immediately follow neighboring occurrences.

- In synchronous division, all nuclei divide simultaneously. In parasynchronous division, mitosis is initiated in one location and then a wave of mitoses travels backwards down the hypha so that nuclei divide sequentially, almost as dominos fall in a line. In asynchronous division, neclei divide independently of neighbours, so the spatial and temporal pattern of mitosis is randomised.
