Etymology

From at least early Medieval Latin pandōrium (piped instrument), after Pan, according to Isidore of Seville,[1] from Ancient Greek Πάν (Pán). Writing in thirteenth century Iberira, Juan Gil de Zamora,[2] closely following Isidore but altering the passage, describes it as an instrument similar to the tambourine.
