     God objects to paganism and idolatry because it is the ultimate act of antiworship, where humans create a god in their own image, or else humans create manageable gods that they think they can manipulate or control, or humans use the pantheon to legitimate the violence and machinations of mischievious monarchs.

     I have named this paradoxical position—a combination of belief and antiworship —as misotheism. The word is derived from the Greek root misos misos (for 'hatred') and theos (for 'God').
