Etymology
First attested as mordum in 1245. Derived from a compound of oud (“old”) and presumably a compound of Proto-Germanic *mari (“lake”) suffixed with the collectivising suffix *-iþi. The element âld was added to distinguish the settlement from Nijemirdum.
