- (Smallingerland) First attested as aldga in 1439. Calque of West Frisian Aldegae, derived in turn from a compound of Old Frisian ald (“old”) and gâ (“village, village area”). The element âld was added to distinguish the settlement from Nijega.
- (De Fryske Marren) First attested as oldegae in 1412. Calque of West Frisian Aldegea, derived in turn from a compound of Old Frisian ald (“old”) and gâ (“village, village area”).
- (Súdwest-Fryslân) First attested with certainty as aldakerke in 1245. Calque of West Frisian Aldegea, derived in turn from Old Frisian ald (“old”) and gâ (“village, village area”). The second element was initially kerk (“church”).
