From Old Galician and Old Portuguese orgullo (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), borrowed from Old Catalan orgull,[1] from Vulgar Latin *orgollium, itself from Proto-West Germanic *uʀgōllju, ultimately from Proto-Germanic *uzgōljō. Related to Portuguese orgulho, French orgueil, Italian orgoglio.
