Oppenhuizen
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as upmahusum and upmanhusum in the 13th century. Derived from a compound of Old Frisian upman (“inhabitant of an upstream area, inhabitant of an elevated area”) and the plural form of hūs (“house”). The Dutch form of the toponym was borrowed from an earlier variant of the Frisian name.
