Etymology
Attested as Oostbuert in 1639. Compound of oost (“east-, eastern”), the hydronym Vuile Graft and dijk (“levee”). The village was initially called Oostbuurt (compound of oost (“east-, eastern”) and buurt (“hamlet, small settlement”)). The element oost was added to distinguish the settlement from West-Graftdijk.
