  1. (grammar) A grammatically independent element of a sentence conveying additional circumstances; present:
    1. in English; realized as a noun phrase and a participle or adjective
    2. in Ancient Greek, less frequent than the accusative absolute which is less frequent than the genitive absolute
    3. in Late Latin
