Usage notes
Appended to the strong verbal stem. Exact form depends, as the infix may trigger assimilation or be subjected to it depending on the inflection type of the verb. In particular, l, r and s tend to assimilate the n (such as tulee → tullee), while a stem-final t is assimilated into the n (such as huomaan → huomannen). With nähdä-type verbs, the final k becomes h (such as näkee → nähnee). The verb olla (“to be”) is suppletive and has exceptional potential forms with the stem lie(ne)-.
