Mount Hope
English
Etymology
Often said to be from Massachusett Montaup, but there is little to back up this claim. That word has been compared to Montauk, but may not be identical.[1] Alternatively, named after the Puritan virtue of Hope, or from Old Norse hóp (“narrow bay”).[2]
Proper noun
