Etymology

From Latin Mōsēs, Mōȳsēs, from Ancient Greek Μωυσῆς (Mōusês), from Biblical Hebrew מֹשֶׁה (mōše). Further etymology is unclear, but it is sometimes conjectured to derive from Egyptian

(mw, water).
