From a pre-Roman substrate of Iberia, from Celtic, either from Proto-Celtic *mino- (“smooth”) (compare Welsh mwyn, Irish mín), from Proto-Indo-European *mei- (“soft, smooth”)[1] or from Proto-Indo-European *mei- (“to go”).[2]
Possibly from Latin minium.[2]
