middagstid
Swedish
Etymology
middag (“midday, dinner”) + -s- + tid (“time”)
Noun
middagstid c
- at (around) noon
- Vi kommer dit framåt middagstid
- We'll get there around noon ("towards noon")
- De brukar dyka upp varje dag vid middagstid
- They usually show up each day around noon
- Synonyms: middag, mitt på dagen, klockan tolv, tolvtiden, tolvsnåret
- when dinner (middag) is eaten, dinner time
- Vi har ingen fast middagstid
- We don't have a fixed dinner time
Usage notes
Dinner also being called middag seems to have led to some confusion in modern times, when dinner is usually eaten later in the day. The dinner time sense only appears in SAOB, but seems fairly common in practice. See also the discussion page on Swedish Wiktionary. Likely to be clear from context.
