Etymology
Borrowed from German Margarodit (coined in 1843 by Dr. Carl Schaffhäutl), from Byzantine Greek μαργαρώδης (margarṓdēs, “pearl-like”), from Ancient Greek μάργαρον (márgaron, “pearl”).
