    • 1832 September 19, G[eorge] B[iddell] Airy, “Addition to Mr. Sheepshanks’ Paper on the Cape Circle”, in Memoirs of the Royal Astronomical Society, volume V, London: [] Priestley and Weale, [], published 1833, page 330:
      A little consideration of the effects of malfiguration of the pivots, malplacement of the axis in the circle, &c., will make it evident that, if these errors follow any distinct and simple law, all their effects must go through their periods while θ is increased by 360°, and that some of them may go through their periods twice or thrice in the same time, but that none of them will go through their periods any fractional number of times with that increase of θ.
