Makkovik
English
Etymology
Borrowed from Eastern Canadian Inuktitut Maggovik, derived in turn from Eastern Canadian Inuktitut maxok (“two”) suffixed with the locative suffix -vik. The toponym appears to refer to a bay split into two sections. The settlement is named after nearby Cape Makkovik.
