From Proto-Mon-Khmer *lut ~ *luut ~ *luət ~ *lət (“to slip (off, down)”); cognate with Khmer លុត (lut, “to slip away”), Khasi loit (“to untie, undress”), Mon လောတ် (lòt, “to fall prone”). See also lọt.
