Etymology
Possibly through Oscan-Umbrian (as the expected Latin form would be *lundus), from Proto-Italic *lonðwos, from Proto-Indo-European *lendʰ- (“to enter, penetrate, expand”).[1] Cognate with Old English lynd (“fat, grease”), lendenu (“loins”), Sanskrit रन्ध्र (rándhra). More at dialectal lend.
