Noun
lojalka f
- (historical, informal) a signed declaration of allegiance to communist authorities
- (by extension, informal, derogatory) allegiance to an organization with rigid ideology
Usage notes
In the communist period, this word was used for a written declaration that the signatory agrees to cease any further anti-communist activity and uphold the existing rule of law. Signing this document did not legally mandate collaboration with the secret services, but was considered synonymous with disassociating oneself from the anti-communist movement both by the underground opposition and by the communist authorities. In the modern sense, it usually refers metaphorically to strict adherence to the views of some organization, such as a political party, but may also be used to refer to an actual document.
