Etymology

From Old Spanish lamar, from Latin clāmāre, present active infinitive of clamō (cry out), whence also the borrowed Spanish doublet clamar. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *kelh₁- (to shout). Cognate with English claim and clamor.
