Etymology

Borrowed from Italian leonardeschi, the masculine plural form of leonardesco (of or pertaining to Leonardo da Vinci, Leonardesque), named after the Italian Renaissance polymath Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) + -esco (-esque, suffix forming an adjective or noun indicating relationship, membership or quality).
