From Middle High German kübel (“wooden vessel; this vessel as a measure of grain”), from Old High German miluhchubilī (“small milk can”), from Old Occitan cubel (“small vat”), from Latin cupa (“tub, cask, vat”).[1] Compare German Kübel.[2][3]

- (obsolete) a measure of land area, which can hold the above amount of seed grain, approx. 4000–4300 square meters, i.e., approx. one acre
