Etymology
From Kyrgyz кыргыз (kırgız), possibly derived from Kyrgyz кырк ууз (kırk uuz, “forty tribes”); or possibly from кыргыс (kırgıs, “imperishable, inextinguishable, undying”); or less likely from кырк кыз (kırk kız, “forty girls”), a reference to the Epic of Manas unifying forty small tribes against the Chinese and the Muslim expansion.
