From the Japanese 兄弟 (kyōdai きょうだい), from Middle Chinese 兄弟 (xüæng-dèj "brothers"), from Old Chinese 兄弟 (*m̥rang-lˁəjʔ), from 兄 ("elder brother") + 弟 ("younger brother").
