- (Oldambt) Attested as Kostverloren in 1899. Compound of kost (“cost, price”) and verloren (“lost”). The toponym refers to a section of land which was either difficult to till or which lost its use as soon as it had been reclaimed. Compare De Jammer and Kostvlies.
