From Proto-Finnic *korpi (“deep forest”) (compare Estonian kõrb, Livvi korbi (“big spruce forest”), Veps korb), possibly from Proto-Uralic *korpe, in which case cognate with Erzya куро (kuro), Khanty [script needed] (χăr), Western Mansi [script needed] (kōrp) and Forest Nenets [script needed] (kurᵊ).[1].
