khổng lồ
Vietnamese
Etymology
Unknown. Perhaps a non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese 空路 (“Void Path”, SV: Không Lộ), a Vietnamese Buddhist sage. Some sources[1] suggest this may also be the name of a Baiyue creator god who is more commonly known as thần trụ trời. The miscontruction possibly due to khủng (“big, huge, dreadful”).
