Etymology
From Ottoman Turkish آلچالمق (alçalmaḳ, “to become low, to stoop, to degrade one's self”)[1], from Ottoman Turkish آلچامق (alçamaḳ, “to treat as vile, to become low”), either from Proto-Turkic *aĺak (“foot of a mountain, low, below”)[2] or from alt (“bottom, base”) combined with the suffix -sa, where the /ts/ sound undergoes a phonetic change and turns into /t͡ʃ/[3], from Proto-Turkic *ăl (“lower side, below, being below, lower”)[4], morphologically alça- + -l- + -tı.
