Etymology
From Ottoman Turkish اسكان (iskan), from Arabic إِسْكَان (ʾiskān), verbal noun of أَسْكَنَ (ʾaskana, “to settle, lodge”). The original Arabic verb is ditransitive, in the "causing to settle" sense below.
