Presumably from initial letter I of the English imagine or if and the sign 1@NearSfhead-PalmDown 1@Sfhead-PalmDown (think).

Production

  • This one-handed ASL sign is produced as follows:
    1. Posture the dominant hand in the “I” handshape at the dominant side of the forehead, near the temple, dominant palm facing back.
    2. Move the hand forward to the next posture.
    3. Posture the dominant hand in the “I” handshape within a few inches of the dominant side of the forehead, near the temple, dominant palm facing back.
