Etymology
Considered a modified version of -agar. Also from Esperanto -igi, Latin -igō and German -igen.
Suffix
-igar
- (with an adjectival or nominal root) to make, render or transform into
- bela (“fine, beautiful, handsome, bonny”) + -igar → beligar (“to beautify, embellish”)
- with an intransitive verbal root, gives it an active sense
- with a transitive verbal root, gives it a causative sense, usually followed by the preposition da
