Etymology
From Runic East Norse ᛁᛅᚴ (iak) (West Norse ek), from Proto-Norse ᛖᚲ (ek), from Proto-Germanic *ek, from Proto-Indo-European *éǵh₂. The breaking of this word proves that it must have been bisyllabic in Proto-Norse, something proven by the variant ᛖᚴᛡ (ekᴀ) found on the Söderköping stone (KJ59).
