(Netherlands, colloquial) Used to express a feeling of mild satisfaction and/or mild relief about having concluded a certain task or activity, or about a certain condition, event, or part of the day having come to an end; used to mark a transition from a state of being active or vexed to a state of relative rest and peace of mind.

   Hèhè, we zijn thuis.

   Glad we're home at last.

   Finally, it stopped raining.

It was a letter to the editor about an Englishman who, on the London underground, instantly recognised all Dutchmen by their habit of sighing 'hèhè' when sitting down on a bench.
