     She never smoked, which surprised me: having seen the Musulman ladies so fond of a huqqa, I concluded the Mahratta ladies indulged in the same luxury.

   • 1962, The British Museum Quarterly, Vol. 25, p. 92:

     As far as I know this is the earliest representation of a huqqa in Indian painting.

   • 2014, Navina Najat Haidar and Courtney Ann Stewart, Treasures from India: Jewels from the Al-Thani Collection, p. 39:

     Smoking a huqqa was a common pastime among the Indian nobility.
