Hupsel
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as Hupsel of Hupzel in 1844. Etymology uncertain. Perhaps a compound of Humbrecht (“a personal name”) and either lo (“light forest on sandy soil”) or Middle Dutch sele (“hall house”). An etymology similar to that of Huppel has difficulty accounting for the presence of -s-.
