From Proto-Finnic *hihna, from earlier *šišna, possibly borrowed from Proto-Baltic [Term?] (compare Lithuanian šikšnà (“strap, belt, leather”)), if the Baltic and Finnic words are not from a substrate.[1] Related to Erzya кшна (kšna, “strap”) (of the same origin).
