单词 Hattrick
释义

Hattrick

German

Etymology

From English hat trick.

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /ˈhɛ.trɪk/, [ˈhɛ.tʁɪk]
  • (file)

Noun

Hattrick m (genitive Hattricks, plural Hattricks)

  1. (soccer) a hat trick; a player’s scoring three goals in one match; as distinct from English usage, the goals are often required to be consecutive, i.e. with no other player of either team scoring in between (see below)

Usage notes

  • The term lupenreiner Hattrick (literally pristine or flawless hat trick) refers specifically to a hat trick where the three goals are scored consecutively and in one half of the match (such that not even halftime comes in between). There is no consensus about whether a “normal” Hattrick requires the same, or requires at least consecutiveness, or requires three goals regardless of sequence. The last is also called Dreierpack (literally pack of three).
  • The British concept of a “perfect hat trick” meaning three goals scored with the right foot, left foot and head respectively, is not known in German-speaking Europe.
