Etymology

Ultimately from Middle French harpie, from Latin harpyia, from Ancient Greek Ἅρπυια (Hárpuia, literally snatcher), from ἁρπάζω (harpázō, I snatch, seize). Compare rapacious. Middle English had arpie.
