From Ancient Greek ἀρχαῖα (arkhaîa, “ancient”), neuter plural of ἀρχαῖος (arkhaîos, “ancient”) and the name of the Greek god of the underworld, Hades.

Hadesarchaea
- A specific taxonomic class of single-celled, non-nucleated extremophiles capable of surviving without light or oxygen. They are found in subterranean areas, geysers and other hot, alkaline environments.
