Etymology

Refers to the district of Habiganj, which is a transliteration of হবিগঞ্জ (hôbigôñj), a corruption of হবিবগঞ্জ (hôbibgôñj), ultimately a bilingual compound of Arabic حبيب‎ (“beloved”) + Persian ‎ (“treasury, store”), as the district was named after the local ruler Syed Habibuddin.
