单词 gôl
释义

gôl

See also: gol, gól, göl, and Gol

Welsh

Etymology

Borrowed from English goal.

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /ɡoːl/
  • Rhymes: -oːl

Noun

gôl f (plural goliau)

  1. (sports, games) goal
  2. aim, prize, destination

Usage notes

  • Like many other unnaturalised, g-initial, feminine singular nouns derived from English, gôl does not undergo soft mutation following the article (y); however, any adjective that modifies gôl mutates as it normally would (e.g. y gôl gyntaf (the first goal)). Conversely, gôl does undergo nasal mutation to ngôl as usual.

Derived terms

  • gôl adlam (drop-goal)
  • gôl gosb (penalty goal)
