Etymology
According to Orel, either derived from or from the same origin as Ancient Greek γαύσαπος (gaúsapos) "frieze". The substratum language is or has been influenced by a Semitic source such as Akkadian 𒆪𒍦𒁍 (/kuzippu, guzippu/, “cloak, clothing, wrapping especially for warmth”).
