Gäns
See also: gans, Gans, and -gans
Luxembourgish
Etymology
Backformation from Middle High German gense, plural of gans, from Old High German gans, from Proto-Germanic *gans. Luxembourgish and the surrounding dialects originally had forms with (sporadic?) loss of pre-fricative nasal (as also in the pronoun eis). The replacement of these forms under eastern influence began at an early stage, but the original form is still conserved in now archaic dialectal Gaus (plural Gäis).
