gâcher

French
Etymology
From Middle French gascher (“to waste, row”), from Old French gaschier, gacher, gasser (“to soil, spoil, waste”) and gaschier, guaschier, waschier (“to wash, soak”), both from Frankish *waskan, *wascōn (“to wash, bathe”), from Proto-Germanic *waskaną (“to wash”), from Proto-Indo-European *wod- (“wet”). Compare related Italian guazzare (“to splash, wallow”), from the same Germanic root. Cognate with Old English wasċan (“to wash”). More at wash.
