Etymology

From Middle English Greclond, Griclond, Griccland, from Old English Grēcland (“Greece”), equivalent to Greek +‎ land. Compare West Frisian Grikelân (“Greece”), Dutch Griekenland (“Greece”), German Griechenland (“Greece”), Danish Grækenland (“Greece”), Swedish Grekland (“Greece”), Icelandic Grikkland (“Greece”).
