From earlier doglus, possibly from drocsoillsí, drochsoillsí, from droch (“low”) + soillse (“brightness, light”)[1]. Alternatively from Proto-Celtic *glustus, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰlustus, from Proto-Indo-European *gʰelh₂- (“to shine”).[2]
